A blogger’s quarrel with the world

Yes, yes y’all. She’s back. The artist wannabe with a college assignment is back. But, as to quote Bob Dylan, ‘don’t get up, gentlemen, I’m only passing through’.

The demise of this blog was imminent. It doesn’t take a social media expert to tell this isn’t one of those it-blogs on which IKEA wants to place an ad (although if you do, IKEA, now’s the time to speak up). I’m sure you savvy readers envisioned the end as much as I did. What you might not have envisioned was the cheesiness, the English text and a laziness level so high, I didn’t even take one single picture myself for this sad occasion. Oh but rest assured, there will be pictures!

Okay. My writing in English this time is due to the fact that I’ve been kindly asked to do so by a non-inhabitant of Romania. And I rarely turn down any kind requests. This post is long overdue, since clarafacepoze‘s been in a slump for at least 2 seasons. Then again, I do love a good comeback. And whoever is still reading my blog deserves a proper farewell, complete with my honest gratitude.

The truth is it makes me kinda sad to be writing this. Sure, it was an amateurish blog and I often neglected it but as little as I wrote on it, I wrote wholeheartedly. Every picture I took was loads of fun. Every comment I’ve approved made my day.  And I hope all of that translated into my posts, including this one. I’m now entering that time of my life when certain truths become harder to ignore, such as the fact that mommy will eventually become tired of sending me money,  public transportation isn’t that cheap for grown-ups and most of the people I’ve known and admired will be stuck in a dead-end job. Me included, probably.

But an equally important truth is that anything done with passion will improve your life in some way. Even if it isn’t the thing you’ve always wanted to do. So I’m nominating my blog as a personal reminder of that fact. ‘Cause I sure as hell enjoyed writing it.

As I’ve said, this post won’t feature any of my own photos. For one, I don’t have my camera with me and secondly, I think you’ll like this better. Underneath this big lump of text you’ll find a slideshow of all the photos I’ve ever loved. Well, not all of them, but 70 odd of the best photos I’ve been lucky enough to feast my eyes on. Most of them are oldies, but there are some more recent gems in there as well. I’ve handpicked each and every one of them, so make sure you check them all out when you have some spare time. These are photos I’ve gathered throughout my years of wandering the Internet, so you’ll forgive me for not remembering where I found them all (some respectable websites, in any case). Also, information on them or the photographer was not always available, but I’ve done my best to correctly identify and attribute them. If you happen to know anything about the nameless photos, please do share.

You’ll notice some recurring names in that slideshow. One of them is Abbas, who happens to be my favorite all-time photographer, so I’ve really put quite a few of his works in there. Trust me, he’s worth it. Robert Doisneau, playful fellow that he is, also one of my faves. Sally Mann is really great too and I share the same birthday with Man Ray, so he’s bound to be in there, somewhere. Oh, and did you guys know that Stanley Kubrick was an amazing photographer before he got into cinema? Like, crazy good. Be sure to check him out, while you’re at it.

So that’s that. Special thanks goes to Călin Dinulescu, my photojournalism teacher from sophomore year, who provided me with some of the photos. His course was always a thrill and I would’ve never found these pictures without his help. Another shout-out goes to Andreea Miron and her big ass Canon camera, for helping me set up my photoblog in times of great despair. And of course, all you readers/followers/likers, y’all know I love you.

If I may, I’d recommend you listen to the following song while looking at the slideshow. The video’s terrific as well, since it basically looks like a series of pretty pictures in motion. It’s a bit corny, but hey, so am I.

Enjoy.
